DIBISION INESTUDION CHAMORU YAN I ESPESIÅT NA PRUGRÅMA SIHA (CHamoru Studies and Special Projects Division)

The CHamoru Language Program began in the early 1970s (Public Law 12-31) as a bilingual program allowing all students to learn Guam's indigenous language and culture. The program was first established as a result of Public Law 14-53 and later amended by Public Law 15-9, which was designed to provide cultural pride, identity, and awareness necessary to sustain the CHamoru language.

The Guam Department of Education Board Policy 346 mandates that the CHamoru language and culture be taught for a minimum of 100 minutes per week or 20 minutes per day in the primary level (K-3rd Grade) and a minimum of 150 minutes per week or 30 minutes per day for the intermediate level (Grades 4th -5th). Public Law 21-34 states that the CHamoru language and culture and Guam History are taught for one year in middle school and one year in high school as a graduation requirement.
