The man who shaped modern Catholicism on Guam.
The historical figure we researched is Felixberto Camacho Flores. He was ordained in the Archdiocese of Hagatna and became the first Chamorro bishop and archbishop in the Catholic church. His legacy is tied to the two issues that he fought against: abortion and gambling. These are still issues happening today. Abortion is an issue the Catholic church is fully against because they condemned it as a grave evil. Abortion is claimed to be forbidden in the bible as it forbids murder. Gambling is what Archbishop Flores thinks will harm and destroy our way of life in the island.
Archbishop Flores shaped the Roman Catholic Church to the next level, by beatifying Padre San Vitores and bringing His Holiness Pope John Paul II to Guam. He was also known as Archbishop Felixberto Camacho Flores Doctor of Divinity.
When Pope Paul VI appointed Flores, he became the first Chamorro to head the Roman Catholic Church on Guam and in the Marianas Islands.
The death of Archbishop Flores on October 25, 1985 ended the era of accomplishments through Guam’s Church history.
