|
(Hagåtña, Guam) The Northern Schools Coalition held its Families And Schools Together (F.A.S.T.) Ceremony to recognize the scholastic achievements of those students scoring either Level 3 or 4 in the recent SAT10 test. Entitled “A Celebration of Scholars” sixty-six (66) elementary, middle, and high school students were honored for their successes last night at the Simon Sanchez High School Cafeteria. First Lady of Guam Mrs. Joann Camacho, Chairman Dr. Jose Cruz & Members of the Guam Education Policy Board, Senator Larry Kasperbauer, and other officials were in attendance to help school principals hand out Certificates of Excellence. First Lady of Guam Joann Camacho is positive more students will be on stage next year. “This is a testimony that our kids are good children and they can do well when guided right, given the right tools, to learn and excel in education. I am honored to be here, and I’m sure that next year it will be double or triple the amount, congratulations to the Guam Public School System.” Camacho said. An alumnus to Simon Sanchez High School, keynote speaker Mr. Julian Aguon addressed the scholars and offered his insight to success in education. Aguon said “To be a student of truth requires a lot of daring, it requires courage, it requires leaving the places you’re comfortable and seeking it out. For me, it was a matter of being a ferocious student of everything I’m not being told…and that’s a lot risk and a lot of daring but that’s an important part of being a scholar.” Aguon is also a recent graduate of Gonzaga University and a local author who addressed students from AsTumbo Elementary, D.L. Perez Elementary, Upi Elementary, Wettegel Elementary, F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle, and Simon Sanchez High. Some four hundred parents, guardians, and friends attended the ceremony which included the “Presentation of Scholars” slide show and dinner hosted by King’s Restaurant.
