School Health Counselors to Hold Staff Development

(Hagåtña, Guam) Health Counselors (popularly known as nurses) from the elementary and middle schools of the Guam Public School System, will be holding an all-day staff development on topics that will focus on improved school health management. This training will be held in the Chuchuko Room at the Hilton Resort and Spa on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Planning Committee of school health counselors led by Dave Hendricks of Chief Brodie Memorial School, Cindi Johnson of P.C. Lujan Elementary School and Teresa Untalan, of Maria A. Ulloa Elementary School has invited some notable Speakers.

Annette Aguon from the Department of Health and Social Services will talk on Immunization Updates, while Cecilia Arciaga and Estelle Alig will speak on Tuberculeosis Updates. A key speaker from the mainland, Joni Tanaciev, will be addressing topics on: Policies and Procedures for School Nursing , Advocacy for Health Education.

School Health Counseling is just one of three disciplines falling under the Student Support Services of the Guam Public School System; the other two are School Guidance and Counseling and Student Attendance/ Truancy.
