Direct Instruction for Math Completes Fourth Day

(Hagåtña, Guam) Some five hundred teachers throughout the district are done with Day Number Four receiving training from the National Institute For Direct Instruction (NIFDI) on Connecting Math Concepts (CMC). There are teachers from Fourth to Eighth grade who are receiving CMC training and new teachers from Kindergarten to 8th grade receiving training in the Reading & Language Program.

Some teachers are receiving extra help through Booster Training, while Peer Coaches Training is being conducted for those teachers K - 8 focusing on in depth data analysis.

The Guam Public School System expects to see Direct Instruction (DI) teaching for Reading and Language for K - Eighth grade; Math for K - Third grade, Fourth and Fifth for students who are functioning below Third grade level in Math and middle school students functioning below Third grade level in Math.

Workshops will continue to tomorrow at the Holiday Resort Guam and the Westin Resort Guam, Friday, August 12, 2005 when NIFDI wraps up training and the System prepares for Opening Day next week on August 16, 2005.
