Substitute Teachers Begin Three-Day Workshop

(Hagåtña, Guam) Over a hundred substitute teachers are participating in a workshop scheduled for today, Thursday, and Friday. Like their counterparts, substitute teachers fill the need to help schools; however, they do it only on a part time basis. “Substitute teachers are on call most of the time and fill the vacancies in our schools when staffing becomes affected.” said Kathy Reyes, Training Chairperson.

Reyes said “The work can be very rewarding when you enter the classroom with a sense of confidence, taking this workshop helps them improve their teaching skills in the area of Lesson Planning, Classroom Management, and Curriculum Development.”

Other areas of training include Disability Awareness, and Methodologies and Mandates for Chamorro Lesson Planning. Participants will be receiving one Continuing Education Unit (CEU). The sessions continue Thursday, August 11, 2005 and Friday, August 12, 2005 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
