|
(Hagåtña, Guam) The 2005 Paraprofessional Leadership Academy concluded today Tuesday, August 9, 2005 after two days of sessions for School Aides. Over 300 aides from around the district participated and received instruction on Conflict Resolution, Understanding Learning Disabilities, and Team Building at the Hilton Guam Resort and Spa. “Empowerment, Enthusiasm, Effectiveness” was the theme for this year’s Academy that helped clearly define the role and responsibility of Paraprofessionals to assist administrators and teachers with the supervision of Guam’s public school students. “The school aides were so motivated and collaborated amongst each other during the workshops. You can feel the excitement and enthusiasm as they worked together in teams.” said Kathy Reyes, Chairperson 2005 Paraprofessional Leadership Academy. Reyes added that “This training also provided an awareness of their roles and responsibilities and helped to enhance their professional growth. They completed the training with a positive attitude and look forward to practicing what they have learned in this upcoming school year.” The next three days from Wednesday, August 10 to Friday, August 12, 2005, Guam Public School System will continue professional development this time with Substitute teachers. Also at the Hilton, several hundred substitute teachers will undergo training in areas such as Effective Classroom Management, Curriculum Development, and Disability Awareness. Sessions start at 8:00 am and continue to 4:00 pm. For more information contact Chairperson Kathy Reyes at 647-4403/4444. |
