Guam Public School System Administrators Begin Week Long Leadership Academy

(Hagåtña, Guam) Striving each year to continue supporting Guam’s 30,000 public school students, the Guam Public School System is conducting school leadership training for its novice and seasoned administrators, principals, and assistant principals. The 2005 Leadership Academy began today at the Westin Resort Guam in Tumon with over 120 participants attending from 37 schools and 17 divisions. The theme this summer “Sustaining Our Profession: Building for Tomorrow” will be the focus for this year’s Academy.

Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Eloise Sanchez, says this year’s theme is significant since it was the participants who selected it. “The theme is very appropriate as we strive to sustain our profession by strengthening our knowledge and beliefs as school administrators thus continuing to build for tomorrow’s leaders.” Sanchez said.

Chairperson for this year’s Academy, Sanchez adds that “The goal of the Academy is to support the efforts of school administrators in understanding how to continue developing effective strategies to sustain school improvement through the development of school personnel to function as professional learning communities.”

Several dynamic speakers have been scheduled to share their public and private sector experiences. The sessions will continue on Friday, July 22, 2005 after the Liberation Day holiday and then resume next week on July 25-27, 2005.
