Guam Public School System in Full Swing with School Readiness Projects

(Hagåtña, Guam) With thirty days to go till the new school year begins, the Guam Public School System is very busy with preparations to get Guam’s public schools ready. GovGuam agencies through the Adopt-A-School program have been lending a helping hand with painting, repairing classrooms, and grounds maintenance.

Director Roseanne Ada and the employees of the Department of Integrated Services for Individuals with Disabilities will join forces with Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Director Peter Roberto and his staff to help the parents and staff of Chief Brodie Memorial School on Saturday, July 16, 2005. Navy Seabees will be volunteering on Sunday, July 17, 2005.

While Guam’s public school employees prepare the physical needs of their campuses, staff development continues in the summer to train administrators, school aides, and substitute teachers. The 2005 Leadership Academy starts off on Monday, July 18, 2005 at the Tamuning Elementary School with a Pre-Academy for new and aspiring administrators.

This year’s theme “Sustaining Our Profession, Building for Tomorrow” will help school leaders reinforce concepts such as Breakthrough Thinking, Learning Communities, and Systems Thinking. The 2005 Leadership Academy for School Administrators kicks off at the Westin Resort Guam in Tumon on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 for a five-day conference to July 27, 2005.
