School Readiness Tops Summer Priorities |
|
(Hagåtña, Guam) The Guam Public School System has begun its summer task of preparing all 37 schools for the upcoming school year. The priorities will focus on school sanitation and health to ensure compliance with all Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) rules and regulations. The System will also meet building code requirements and address all citations from GovGuam’s regulatory agencies. While addressing facilities and maintenance issues, the district will also conduct training for school aides and hold its Summer Leadership Academy for administrators. Personnel needs for all divisions and schools are being addressed along with scheduling and staffing patterns being reviewed for system-operated cafeterias. Activities such as the Passport to Careers Summer Youth Employment Program have been started and are set for implementation by July of this summer. The bid process for food services has begun with contracts expected to be in place by August. The administration is moving forward to mitigate all circumstances surrounding health and safety with assistance from various GovGuam agencies. Many projects have been noted and are high on the priority list, however, availability of funding and materials will affect the work schedule and proposed deadlines for completion.
