Guam Cadets Shine Proud at Annual Drill Meet

(Hagåtña, Guam) Guam’s Army Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps units will be bringing home more awards for the trophy case. Multiple School Unit Guam, U.S. JROTC Drill Team competed in the Fifth Annual Golden bear National Drill Meet on April 30, 2005 in Pomona, California and collected fourteen trophies in eleven categories. Trophies were awarded for all categories from First to Ninth place.

Cadets from George Washington, Simon Sanchez, and Southern High School represented Team Guam who competed against 47 other high schools from around the state. The Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force JROTC high school programs were also represented in competitions from Armed Inspection to Un-armed Drill Team Exhibition.

This recent showing is a standard of excellence by Guam’s Army JROTC cadets who have done extremely well at off-island drill competitions for decades and who also rate high in regional evaluations.

Last year in February, GWHS, SSHS and SHS all received the award of “Honor Unit with Distinction” the highest award given to outstanding JROTC units by the visiting Army Cadet Command Inspectors.

The Guam cadets will be returning this week on May 6, 2005. For information contact Director of Army Instruction, MSUG, Major Paul Luarca at 475-0518.
