Guam D.O.E. High Schools Compete In Mock Trial Finals

(Hagåtña, Guam) The Islanders from John F. Kennedy High School (JFKHS) are taking on the Sharks from Simon Sanchez High School (SSHS) in what will prove to be the battle for who is Guam’s best High School Mock Trial Team. The debates get underway at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow evening at the Superior Court of Guam.

The winners will represent Guam in North Carolina during competition lasting from May 5 to 7, 2005. Regular competition began back in January and concluded this month. The Semi-Finals were held last week with SSHS and JFKHS heading into the Finals.

Six schools competed this year including, Notre Dame, Academy of Our Lady, Father Duenas Memorial, and St. John’s. Father Duenas is the current Champion for School Year 2003-2004.

A visiting Mock Trial team is also here visiting from Korea. The students come from Han Young Foreign Language High School, the first high school to have a mock trial program in Korea. Considered a top high school in Korea, many graduates go on to attend top universities in the U.S.

All of the trial participants are members of the Overseas Study Program or (OSP). The visiting students were selected from among all 48 competing students.
