Focus Area 2 - Mentoring and Professional Growth

Goal 4:  To increase the likelihood of teacher retention by providing systemic mentor training and induction support from trained mentors and revision of professional growth requirements.

Objective 1: To implement a mentor training program system-wide.

Outcome: GPSS Central will serve as a support system for schools in the provision of mentor training and induction support.

Measure: Mentor Training and Induction handbook submitted to Guam Education Policy Board (GEPB) for adoption.

Objective 2: To implement mentoring training and induction programs in all schools.

Outcome: GPSS will implement a system-wide Mentor Training and Induction Support based on research-based practices for all beginning teachers.

Measure: Every beginning teacher will be assigned a Mentor Training Provider.

Goal 5: To re-design professional growth (recertification/reclassification) requirements to increase retention of highly qualified teachers thereby ensuring student achievement.

Objective 1: To review and revise professional growth requirements to ensure the provision of standards-based professional development.

Outcome: By June 2007, GPSS will implement revised professional growth requirements that are standards-based.

Measure: Applications for recertification and reclassification will reflect revised professional growth requirements.
