Who can be a Peer Supporter?

  • A peer supporter must be a junior or senior.
  • A student must have earned a 75% or better in core subjects.
  • A student must be recommenced by a teacher, counselor, or an administrator.
What characteristics and skills are required?
  • A student must be a responsible, reliable, and respectful individual.
  • A student must have good attendance and must be disciplined with time management.
  • A student must be flexible and tolerant of diversified environments and personalities.
  • A student must be disciplined with the maintenance of confidentiality.
  • A student must be creative enough to encourage and to motivate success in others.
  • A student must be skilled in taking notes, organization of notebooks/binders, communication, reading, writing, spelling, locating information through resources.
What are the rewards of being a Peer Supporter?
  • You see programs with students' performance, both with skills as an effective student as well as academically.
  • You apply what you have learned; you learn new things; or you enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • It is a fun, challenging experience which does not include stress.
  • You meet people.
  • You feel good about yourself when students turn to you for help.
