Guam Public School System

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR EMPLOYMENT

Applicants are required to submit the following documents as a condition for employment with the Guam public school system.

1. Official College/University Transcripts: Official (embossed sealed) transcript of records that shows conferred degree(s). The Guam public school system reserves the right to require such transcripts to be sent directly from the institution of higher learning to the Personnel Services Division of the Guam public school system.

2. Police Clearance: Certified police clearance must be as recent as six (6) months. Fee for police clearance is at expense of the applicant. The police clearance is required upon selection for employment.

a) Local applicant: Guam Police Department

b) Off-Island applicant: State or County Police Department where applicant resides

3. Court Clearances: Must be submitted upon selection for employment. Fee for court clearances is at the expense of the applicant.

a) Local applicants: Superior Court of Guam & District Court of Guam

b) Off-island applicants: State Court & Federal Court where applicant resides

4. All applicants for employment are subject for cross-check against the Sex Offender Registry list.

5. Tuberculosis Clearance (PPD Skin): TB clearance is required before an applicant commences employment. The clearance must be valid up to a year. TB clearance is required every year throughout the duration of employment. Fee for TB clearance is at the expense of the applicant and employee.

6. Drug Screening: Drug screening is required of all applicants before commencement of employment. The drug screening must be a referral through the Personnel Service Division to an authorized drug screening laboratory. This requirement applies to local and off-island applicants. Fee for drug screening is at the expense of the applicant.

7. Evidence of Verification of Employment Eligibility as required by the U.S. Department of Justice, Immigration & Naturalization Services (INS) Form I-9: Evidence of U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the United States or its territories by the Immigration & Naturalization Services. Such documents are U.S. Passport, Birth Certificate, Social Security, & valid Identification Card. The INS I-9 form is required upon selection and processing of employment of both local and off-island applicants. It is not required for submission of employment applicantion and not required during employment interview.

8. Local and Off-Island Teachers: The Guam public school system requires teachers in the Guam public school system to be holders of a Guam valid professional teaching certificate. Among other requirements, teachers are required to take and pass the PRAXIS I test, for those teachers that are not covered by the reciprocity agreement with other U.S. jurisdictions. Details of the certification requirements may be obtained at the Education Certification Office.
