Report cards are one of
several avenues used to provide parents or guardians with information
about their child's progress. Measurements are made on academic, emotional, physical and social growth. The goal of education is to help
meet needs of the child in the form of teaching academic, emotional,
physical, and social skills needed to face the challenges and
responsibilities of the Twenty First century. The Report Card Task Force was formed to revise report card formats for
Grades 1 through 5. As an integral part of the process, Report Card
Guides for the aforementioned grade levels were created to help teachers
and parents understand the new revisions. The modified report cards were
then piloted and refined into a final product for review by the Guam
Education Policy Board (GEPB). Approval of the new format
was made by GEPB in June 2003, and the new report cards were implemented
at the start of School Year 2003-2004. The report cards undergo a
constant state of evaluation by elementary school teachers in terms of their usefulness, relevance, and conveyance of meaningful information. The Kindergarten Report Card was the product of the Kindergarten Report
Card Task Force. This report card was revised to reflect the K-3
Integrated Curriculum which was adopted by the Territorial Board of
Education in July 1995. A Kindergarten Report Card Guide was also
developed to assist teachers in preparing report cards for their
students as well as help parents understand how their children will be
assessed. Due to their
diverse curriculums, procedures vary among Middle Schools and High
Schools in reporting student progress.
