Guam Department of Education - Language Arts Program

The Language Arts / Reading Program is the catalyst in providing the school language arts and reading educators with guidance and leadership in curriculum development, professional development, and program development with respect to the language arts and reading content areas.

Curriculum Development

The documents that make up the driving force in establishing and developing curriculum through formal classroom instruction in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade include:

  • The National Council of Teachers of English’s Standards for the English Language Arts

  • Guam Department of Education Language Arts Content Standards and Performance Indicators

  • SAT 9 Index of Instructional Objectives

Professional Development

The annual Reading Summit provides workshops that relate to the development of the five reading skills identified by the National Reading Panel as the essential skills evident in skilled readers.  The TFASEG Grant has identified funds to assist teachers in getting certified to teach language arts and reading at the secondary level.
